Somatic Facial Therapy and Brain State Regulation
QEEG Brainwave Assessment — Executive Summary

In collaboration with applied neuroscientist Archie McAlpine of Archie McAlpine and Associates, real-time brainwave activity was recorded before and immediately after a single 90-minute Signature Somatic Reset session at House of Kush-Kush, Shoreditch, using the Divergence Neuro QEEG platform.

Important – please read first: This summary presents findings from a single-participant, pre/post observation without a control condition. Findings are therefore preliminary and cannot yet distinguish session-specific effects from normal physiological variability. This document does not constitute a medical claim or diagnosis.

KEY NEUROLOGICAL FINDINGS — SINGLE SESSION

Alpha: 16.46% to 51.14%
Posterior Alpha Shift (O1) — Calming rhythm increase — +34.68 percentage point change

Beta Symmetry +21%
Frontal Balance (F3/F4) — Right-dominant to balanced — Anxiety marker to equilibrium

Sleep Markers — Observed Improvement
Sleep dysregulation index — Warrants further investigation

WHAT THE DATA MEANS

Posterior Alpha Shift (O1)

Posterior alpha rhythms are associated with the brain’s ability to regulate the amygdala — the centre of the stress response. The eyes-open/eyes-closed alpha shift improved significantly across the session, rising from 16.46% to 51.14% of relative amplitude (+34.68 percentage points). When this marker is dysregulated, it typically reflects a hypervigilant, chronically stressed nervous system. This observation is consistent with the session producing a measurable shift toward a calmer physiological state.

Frontal Beta Symmetry (F3/F4)

Left-dominant frontal beta asymmetry is neurologically linked to rumination and over-analysis. Right-dominant beta is a common marker for anxiety. Prior to the session, the pattern was right-dominant. Following the session, beta symmetry moved into a balanced state (+21%). This is a metric that occasionally shows positive shifts following practices such as meditation, acupuncture, and energy healing.

Sleep-Related Markers

An observed shift in sleep-related markers was noted post-session, with the sleep dysregulation composite score moving from 2.10 to 0.70. This is an encouraging early-stage signal, independently supported by Oura Ring wearable data which recorded a restorative 1hr 12min nap post-session, with a +6% improvement in both sleep score and daytime readiness. This finding warrants further investigation.

Arousal-Related Markers (Emotional and Stress Composite)

Some arousal-related markers showed a small temporary increase, which is commonly observed following emotionally engaged bodily work and is not unexpected. These two indices share several underlying metrics, so movement in one is typically accompanied by movement in the other.

METHODOLOGY

Brainwave activity was recorded at four electrode sites (F3, F4, Cz, O1) using the Divergence Neuro QEEG platform, before and immediately after a single 90-minute Signature Somatic Reset session at House of Kush-Kush, Shoreditch. Recordings were taken across eyes-open, eyes-closed, and under-task conditions. This represents a single-participant, pre/post observation without a control condition; findings are therefore preliminary and cannot yet distinguish session-specific effects from normal physiological variability. Of the full range of metrics assessed, 11 showed notable change. Data prepared by Archie McAlpine and Associates. This is early-stage data from an initial collaboration between House of Kush-Kush and Archie McAlpine and Associates.

QUOTE

“It was really fascinating to capture measurable shifts in brain activity across a single session with Kush, particularly a marked increase in the alpha rhythm associated with a calm, restful state. These findings — although single-case, early-stage observations — are exactly the kind of signals that make this worth studying in more detail.”
